The Enhanced Oil Recovery Institute (EORI), in collaboration with Crescent Energy Company (Crescent Energy), assisted with the drilling and coring of a research well in Natrona County, Wyoming.
The research well was drilled and cored through the 1st Wall Creek sand as part of a project jointly funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and Crescent Energy to investigate the existence of a residual oil zone (ROZ) below the productive interval of the formation. EORI and Crescent Energy will determine if CO2 can be used to economically recover residual oil from that zone, and to ultimately sequester CO2. EORI is looking forward to the analysis of the core and resulting modeling. The project is expected to be finished in the fall of 2024.
